When Marie and Jean moved to St. Thomas after their home was destroyed during the earthquake in Haiti, they never expected the welcome they would receive at the Marriott Frenchman’s Reef and Morning Star Beach Resort. They were already wed in a Haitian courthouse, but didn’t have a chance to have their dream wedding in a church, in front of family and friends.
Both Jean and Marie, or “Ma” as the Housekeeping Department calls her, work in Housekeeping. They both worked hard, and often offered to stay late or come in early to help save for their big wedding day. Noticing the dedication, their fellow associates wanted to make a special contribution to this special day. To do so, they upgraded them to the Presidential Suite which had been decorated with roses and sea shells.
Marie cried tears of joy and thanks, expressing how special she felt and how she will always be grateful for the years working at the resort. She felt like she had people she could depend on; like they were all her family. Their dream of being married in front of family really did come true.
