To celebrate Marriott International’s 90 illustrious years and the launch of Marriott Careers’ “To the Journey” campaign, The Westin Shenzhen Nanshan took a unique approach to engage associates and get them excited for their journey.
To get the journey start, General Manager David Cuddon led 80 people on a fictional train named MI Journey 1927-2017. Here, five groups presented various time periods from Marriott International’s history ranging from when it all began to the present day. Before boarding, all associates needed a ticket, which came in the form of a “Journey Card.” Here, associates wrote about their Marriott journey thus far and eventually kept as an event keepsake.
All department heads who participated sported their Marriott uniform from their first position at the company. The General Manager wore his pastry chef uniform, the Front Office Manager wore her Front Desk Guest Service Attendant uniform, and the Executive Assistant to General Manager wore his suit to attend this journey as he started as a Secretary of General Manager.
Associates appreciated the creative way they were able to celebrate and review Marriott’s history while also reflecting on their personal careers and learning about each other. Most importantly, they left the event feeling proud to be a part of Marriott family and prepared for their journey ahead.
