In January, associates from The Westin Golf Resort & Spa, Playa Conchal in Guanacaste, Costa Rica, celebrated the launch of the Tamarindo Kids Art Wave – an initiative to encourage and promote art to the children and youth of the community.
The Tamarindo Kids Art Wave is part of the Tamarindo Art Wave, a biennial festival to help bring art closer to the community. This year, the festival invited the surrounding public and private schools to participate, giving children from the local communities an opportunity to create works that could also be displayed during the festival.
While the private schools were quick to jump on the opportunity, the public schools needed a bit of help with the means and structure to create art. So, the property invited over 21 public schools in the Tamarindo district to participate in an art-focused workshop. Associates, joined by 27 enthusiastic students between the age of 7 and 18, and under the guidance of renowned Costa Rican artists Fabio Herrera and Mario Maffioli, spent a weekend creating 46 pieces of artwork.
These 1×2 meter-artworks were painted on recycled truck canvas and were showcased on the beach of Tamarindo during the three days of the festival!
The property was so happy to be part of this beautiful project.
