Marriott International celebrated its 90th anniversary on May 20, 2017. Keeping this organization, which has grown from a 9-stool A&W Root Beer stand to an international hotel company with more than 6,000 properties, running smoothly is no easy feat. That’s why we dedicate one week each year to celebrate our associates’ continuous hard work.
Associate Appreciation Week was celebrated during the week of May 22nd with activities focused on TakeCare, Unity, Spirit to Serve, and our 90th anniversary. This week on Heart of the House we’ll look back at some of the many activities our properties planned.
Many properties kicked off 90th anniversary celebrations with cake and ice cream, whereas others, like The Westin Gurgaon, New Delhi and the Jordan Valley Marriott Resort & Spa Dead Sea got their creative juices flowing with a floral arrangement and a miniature rendition of a Hot Shoppe.
Throughout the week, there were amazing displays of appreciation. The GM from Hotel Elephant, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Weimar, sent letters to his associates to express his appreciation for their hard work.
It’s not a celebration without team dinners, barbecues, and outings. The Sheraton Grand Los Angeles celebrated AAW along with their their big win as Marriott’s Hotel of the Year for the West Region and the Americas for Classic Premium hotels by hosting a big team barbecue, complete with a mariachi band.
The Sheraton Vancouver Wall Centre, owned and managed by Wall Financial Corporation, put on the first-ever “all associate” lunch and dinner.
The head of each department at the Sheraton Hanoi Hotel showed their appreciation to each of their team members with gifts and games. The Sheraton Hoi An Tam Ky Resort & Spa sent everyone to the beach for outdoor team building. The Ritz-Carlton Jakarta, Mega Kuningan and the JW Marriott Hotel Jakarta, teamed up for one big event, inviting all family members to celebrate for two days at the Ocean Water Park nearby.
Other hotels simply gave associates a chance to have fun. There was a singing contest at the Renaissance Bangkok Ratchaprasong Hotel. The York Marriott Hotel played games to inspire friendly competition, set up crafting events, brought a mobile farmyard to play with pets, and planned a party at a nearby venue. And at the Grosvenor House, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Dubai and Le Royal Méridien Beach Resort and Spa, associates participated in dragon boat racing, cultural dance and music sessions at a Unity Day barbecue, sunset yoga, massages for associates from the Spa team, and had the chance to earn many prizes.
