Awards of Excellence Spotlight: Courtyard by Marriott Pune Chakan

Courtyard by Marriott Pune Chakan

When the Courtyard by Marriott Pune Chakan in India launched TakeCare last year, they decided to approach it more as a personal mindset than a program to “check off” their list. The TakeCare team rallied its associates by appealing to the impact good choices can make on personal wellbeing as well as overall family wellbeing.

The hotel’s TakeCare team is comprised of TakeCare Champions from each department in the hotel. Together they develop a calendar of opportunities for associates to live out the TakeCare mindset. They have demonstrated many achievements across all TakeCare pillars.

General Manager Nasir Shaikh is energized by the progress his team has made in just one year. He believes the TakeCare mindset has created a unique sense of belonging and family among his associates.

“We live by three words: Believe. Involve. Act. We believe we can make a difference for ourselves and our teams, we involve our entire community, and we act. We walk the walk we’ve set out for our associates. If we have the mindset, there is no obstacle we can’t face,” says Nasir.

A challenge Nasir set forth for his associates is to complete a 90km bike ride to raise money for the Asian University for Women that Marriott supports through mentors, internships, jobs and scholarships. AUW is an independent, international university in Bangladesh that admits students solely on the basis of merit, regardless of nationality, religion or economic background.

No one in the group had ever cycled for 90km, but they were determined to not only finish, but to raise awareness and funds for AUW. They chose a route that visited six hotels: Four Points by Sheraton Hotel & Service Apartments Pune, The Westin Pune Koregaon Park, Marriott Suites Pune, Sheraton Grand Pune Bund Garden Hotel, JW Marriott Hotel Pune, and Courtyard by Marriott Pune Hinjewadi. They raised about $1,300 for AUW through their efforts.

Associates don’t want the ride to stop either, as many have been encouraged to begin riding to work rather than drive. With 60% of associates at the Courtyard by Marriott Pune Chakan living within a 7km radius, biking could help cut carbon emissions from urban transportation by 11%.

Way to go team! We are proud of all our honorees and wish them the best in their continued success.
