Hurricane Irma has made for extremely difficult conditions in the Caribbean and Florida. Not only has the rain brought severe flooding, but the loss of power has made things more difficult for those trying to weather the storm, causing properties to operate without the use of elevators for several days.
For guests who are less mobile, this has been particularly challenging; however, on multiple occasions, Marriott associates have gone above and beyond to care for those in need.
The Courtyard Fort Lauderdale Airport & Cruise Port took in several evacuees from a nearby nursing home. With the power out when it was time for evacuees to return home, associates physically carried each of the evacuees down the steps to their transportation.
At the Fort Lauderdale Marriott North, a guest had been staying with his mother when the power went out. With his mother in a wheelchair and unable to make it down the stairs, the bellman Cisco carried the guest’s mother down 16 flights of stairs. He then returned to her room to carry her luggage down.
It’s great to see associates literally taking the weight off their customers’ shoulders and making sure they’re all safe and cared for.
