Houston Police Give Thanks

We’ve received so many stories about the great work Marriott properties, associates, and owners have been doing, but all of this is validated when Houston’s finest are the ones praising them. The following is an account from Michael Parrie, a Lieutenant for the Houston Police Department on his experience with The Westin Galleria Houston and The Westin Oaks Houston.

“On Sunday August 27, my division with the Houston Police Department was displaced due to Hurricane Harvey and we ended up taking residence in [The Westin Galleria Houston]. Most of my tactical officers, as well as many officers from my division, got rooms at [The Westin Oaks Houston]. In total, we had eleven rooms for my squad, and I don’t know how many more, not only for HPD officers, but for outside agencies and other first responders. Not only were we working out of the Galleria, but many officers were also displaced from their homes due to the intense flooding, including myself.

I cannot begin to tell you what a blessing your hotel staff has been. With the largest flood in U.S. history, it was a comfort knowing we had a clean bed, hot shower, and a dry roof over our heads. Your staff was extremely accommodating, helpful, and went out of their way to make us feel welcome.

They treated us with the utmost respect. There were several times I had to make unusual requests as I was trying to house and help pay the rooms for 22 of my officers. Even though I knew I was sometimes being a bit bothersome with my requests, your staff treated me like I was the CEO of a Fortune 500 company. I was always greeted with a smile and they were always happy to help me with whatever I, or my officers, needed. You also went out of your way to accommodate officers’ families as several them were also evacuated and sought refuge at the Westin.

I would especially like to commend the following staff members—Guest Services Manager Duncan Schlag, Lance Cummings, Ashley Thorten, Kitchen Supervisor Marina Arenas, and especially Complex Guest Services Manager Mr. Charles Randolph.

Mr. Randolph went above and beyond what I could have expected in the way of customer service. I do not have the words to express the gratitude I have towards him and his staff. I can tell you, this experience has made me a Marriott customer for life. All I can honestly say, on behalf of me and my officers, is thank you.”
