The associates of the London Marriott Hotel County Hall were just steps from the attack that took place on Westminster Bridge in London on Wednesday, March 22. The hotel team immediately responded when asked for help by the authorities; providing space for a trauma center where paramedics tended to the wounded and providing meeting rooms to the police to conduct interviews and take statements from witnesses.
General Manager Govert Deketh and his associates took care of a group of French school children who were on Westminster Bridge at the time of the attack. Three of the children were badly injured and taken to the nearby hospital, whilst the rest of the students were treated at the hotel. The hotel offered the children and teachers a place to stay for the night. The French embassy, French Foreign Minister and UK Minister for Foreign Affairs joined the students and their parents at the hotel the next morning.
British and French officials held a joint press conference at the hotel where, shoulder-to-shoulder, they displayed solidarity supporting and aiding those who were impacted by the tragic events.
Putting people first is a core value at Marriott – and the London Marriott Hotel County Hall couldn’t have demonstrated this value any better. Marriott is proud and grateful for the efforts of the associates and leadership at the hotel.
