The Big Coastal Clean-Up
The Ladies & Gentlemen of The Ritz-Carlton, Cancun in Mexico recently visited the beaches of nearby island Isla Mujeres to participate in the International Coastal Cleanup initiative with Ocean Conservancy, an organization dedicated to finding solutions to the biggest threats facing the ocean.
The International Coastal Cleanup initiative is one of the largest annual preservation and protection events and volunteer efforts for the world’s ocean, waves, and beaches. It is a global movement that encompasses six million volunteers in 90 countries.
The associates from the hotel, along with locals and volunteers, picked up trash along the beaches, then sorted it and made it ready for proper discarding. The effort resulted in more than 200 pounds of trash, including 25 pounds of microplastic, being collected.
This is an example of how Marriott International associates support The Ritz-Carlton’s Community Footprints program, the brand’s signature way of delivering on Serve 360, the company’s sustainability and social impact platform, and its goal to achieve 15 million hours of volunteerism by 2025.
